Dear Classroom Families,
Happy Friday! Here are a few updates from Ms. Lisa and a few asks as to follow up:
Celebration: I want to take a moment to celebrate the growth I am witnessing in the classroom with all your students. It generally takes about 8 weeks to get acclimated to a new classroom environment including normalizing all the routines and procedures; this is especially true for those transitioning from a primary classroom to an elementary classroom. Your students are acclimating wonderfully, and I could not be prouder.
Spelling: We are starting a new spelling program this year and its group based. On Monday, your students will start bringing home their spelling words for the week to practice in preparation for spelling tests on Fridays. I will make sure to include a cover sheet to explain the new spelling program, expectations for home practice, and remediation for words missed on the spelling test. We are also diving into a deeper study of the words to include synonyms and antonyms and the students will keep track of their words and word study using color-coded note cards that they will store on a note card ring.
Works + Curriculum: As part of ongoing parent update emails, I am going to include little snippets of what we are learning in class. Most recently, students are learning about the history of clocks and how to tell time on an analog clock. In addition to our clock study, we are learning all about the solar system and I hope that you got to see some of their finished solar system creations in the communications folder.
Reminders and Follow Up
Goal Setting Conference: If you did not get a chance to sign up for the conferences coming up next week, please visit the Signup Genius link HERE and pick a slot for your conference. The conferences will be student led so please ensure that your student is with you at the conference. Because the time will solely be allotted for setting and discussing goals and will go by quickly, please don’t hesitate to set up another time/appointment with Lisa for matters not pertaining to the goal setting conference that you may want to discuss.
Volunteering: Thank you to all who signed up to pick up pizza on Fridays and deliver to the school. We are still in need of parent volunteers to support field trip transportation and Sprouts shopping transportation. If you are still interested or newly interested in volunteering, please click HERE and let me know so that I can coordinate with Lisa and the front office. To qualify for a volunteer duty such as transportation or sprouts shopping, you will need to submit a volunteer clearance paperwork to the front office and be cleared by the front office. If you filled out the paperwork last year, you will need to do it again this year per front office protocol. The form above will let you indicate where you are in the volunteer clearance process so that we can plan accordingly.
Thank You: Kudos to all who found and sent placemats with the students’ lunches this last week; it's been super helpful and lunch is going so much better.
